Ayant récemment perdu un bébé, Vera, vétérinaire, se console en prenant soin d’une femelle tigre tout juste arrivée dans son zoo. Un soi, alors qu’elle vient de surprendre son mari en plein adultère, Vera, ivre de colère, omet de refermer la cage du fauve, qui s’enfuit. Le lendemain, la jeune femme et son mari prennent la tête d’une expédition improbable pour retrouver l’animal. Plus que la quête d’un tigre en fuite, cette battue devient pour Vera une réelle introspection sur sa vie, son couple et ses aspirations.
