Dans une horlogerie suisse où commencent à poindre les bouleversements induits par les avancées technologiques du XIXe siècle, Josephine, une jeune ouvrière, fabrique le balancier. Elle se retrouve mêlée à un mouvement local d’horlogers anarchistes où elle rencontre l’aventurier russe Pierre Kropotkine.
